Funding

We are grateful to the U.S. National Science Foundation for the generous financial support of the majority of the work described here. The NSF division of Chemistry supports the research work on dendrimers and portions of the work on new hosts. The NSF Division of Materials Research supports the research work on metal nanoparticles capped with molecular receptors. A grant from the Office of Naval Research's HBCU-MI Program supports our collaborative research work with the group of Professor Tong Ren, which focuses on the design, preparation and characterization of novel nanometer-size structures and devices based on Prof. Ren's diruthenium metallayne compounds. This grant provides funding for two undergraduate ONR Scholars in our research group: Cheryl Benjamin and Elizabeth Del Valle.
